Empowering the Next Wave of Innovators in STEM and Entrepreneurship

Today marks an exhilarating milestone as we officially launch Mo-saiQ, a transformative initiative dedicated to nurturing and empowering Black, Latinx, and Indigenous scholars in the vibrant regions of the DC Metro , North Carolina, and Massachusetts. Founded in 2022 by Shawna Young, Dr. Tammy Stevens, and Dr. Paris Andrew, Mo-saiQ is more than an organizationโ€”itโ€™s a movement.

Like the intricate pieces of a mosaic, Mo-saiQ brings together essential resources, mentorship, and culturally affirming experiences. Our mission is focused on fostering resilience, celebrating cultural pride, and developing a critical awareness that empowers scholars to not only navigate but also reshape the landscape of STEM and entrepreneurship.

Our Innovative Approach

At Mo-saiQ, we confront the inequities in STEM and entrepreneurship with a dynamic strategy:

  • Culturally-Affirming Development:We provide tools and resources that support the growth and reflect the rich backgrounds of our scholars.
  • Personalized Learning Experiences:Utilizing our AI-generated platform, Mo-saiQ iQnnect, we offer tailored educational pathways.
  • Supportive Network: Through Mo-saiQ Empowerment Exchange (ME2), we enhance networking and collaborative skills, crucial for professional growth and success.

Our Ambitious Goals

By 2035, we aim to impact 50,000 scholars, equipping them with the skills and confidence to thrive and innovate. Our goal is to transform not just individual lives but entire communities, paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse professional landscape.

The Drive Behind Our Mission

Our founders bring unique perspectives and unwavering dedication:

  • Shawna Young: Shawna’s journey from the supportive environment of Fayetteville, NC, and Howard University to leading initiatives in STEM and education at MIT, Duke, Scratch Foundation, Ada Developers Academy, and Camelback Ventures, has been fueled by her recognition of the critical need for equitable access. Her experiences have instilled a resolve to ensure that young people, regardless of background, have the opportunity to realize their potential.
  • Dr. Tammy Stevens: Growing up in Syracuse, NY, Tammy faced early misclassifications in education that could have deterred her academic and career aspirations. Instead, these experiences fortified her determination to ensure that every child has access to the resources and opportunities that foster success. Since graduating from MIT, Tammy has remained steadfast in her commitment to building the cornerstones of STEM career access at MIT, Northrop Grumman, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Capital One and Johnson & Johnson. Her story is a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of advocacy and belief in oneโ€™s potential.
  • Dr. Paris Andrew: Parisโ€™s educational path was shaped by her parents’ strategic decisions and the societal structures they navigated to provide her with superior educational opportunities. Her professional focus on creating equity-centered pathways in healthcare and STEM at Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill reflects a deep understanding of how social capital and community advocacy can influence educational outcomes.
